I'm a husband to my beautiful wife, Sharon, of 27 Years and a proud father of two children, Ashley and Noah. I've dedicated 17 Years to business leadership and impowering others. Raised in a military family, I'm the second son of Sgt. Major Dewey Dickens and Charlene Dickens. After 26 ½ years in the military, my father retired to Nashville, Tennessee, where I would remain for another 30 years and begin my own family.
Sharon and I met in Nashville. By God's grace we were married in 1993. I promised her that my lifelong dream was to one day live in Hawai'i. We were a part of a wonderful community and loved the roots we planted for our two amazing children, but God had bigger plans. In 2015, an opportunity came to live out our dreams. I was recruited to the islands.
For the first two years on island, we worked hard at building a future, learning as much as we could about the Aloha Spirit and the Hawaiian Culture. I saw the unique hardships that everyone faces in Hawaii. It really hit home. Truly, I ended up facing similar hardships. My job was eliminated and our income was gone. It was a very difficult time. We were forced to make a new plan. Not able to find work and bills piling up, our situation forced me to a last resort. I had to take back my job on the mainland. We weren't willing to give up on the island. My family stayed on Oahu so the kids could finish out the school year. We talked about reassessing after a few months. It ended up being six months away from my family. It was the hardest months of my life. I couldn't take being away anymore. We decided we'd tough it out and remain on the island. Determined to make it here, I moved back and took a smaller position in order to be build a life here.
Over the last couple years, I've felt deeply about the struggles and sacrifices that everyone must make to call this place home. These past few years learning and growing on Oahu have been pivotal. I don't want to sit by and watch these communities struggle anymore. That's why I've decided to run for U.S. Congress District 1. This island has forever changed my perspective and shown me how I can take my years in business leadership to build a team that makes Aloha Affordable Again for every family and business owner. We must protect our constitutional freedoms in this place we call home. Hawai'i deserves so much better.
